Six species across five small genera that don’t fit a larger family page. Caiques are tiny circus performers. Eclectus are sexually dimorphic in a way no other parrot is. Pionus are quieter alternatives to Amazons. Parrotlets are pocket-sized fierce. Kakariki are the unusual ground-foraging New Zealand parakeet.
Each is the only or one of two representatives of its family in my placements — and each is a connoisseur’s pick.

An Eclectus in good light is one of the most striking birds I have ever placed. The males emerald-green, the hens deep red and purple. Nothing else looks like them.
